GALA CHANGEOVER DINNER 2017/2018

Lions Club Of Geelong Breakfast Members, Families and Guests enjoyed a beautiful Changeover Dinner at Karingal Community Hub in East Geelong in early July.

The 17th President was inducted along with the 2017/2018 Office Bearers by Lion Maree Konieczka.

Past President Raechel Gleeson also presented awards for service.to several members.

Guests and Lions celebrated the 100th Year Anniversary of Lions International with a Birthday Cake which was cut jointly by -

1ST QUEENSCLIFF SEA SCOUTS AWARDS PRESENTATION 

President Alan, Jenny, Cheryl & Howard, Scouts, Leaders, Family attended this event on Thursday 12th August, 2017.

Alan spoke briefly on the work our club does and how monies raised benefit a cross section of the community. A presentation was then made to the Cub Packs (2 Dune Kimberely 9 plus Tents)

Cubs and Scouts were most appreciative of the gift and a follow up email from the Group Leader says:

"Our thanks to the Lions Club Of Geelong Breakfast for the donation of the two tents. They will get a good workout this year with Cuboree coming up"

LIONS INTERNATIONAL VICE PRESIDENT VISITS GEELONG STROKE ASSOC

First Vice President Gudrun Yngvadottir is in line to become Lions Clubs International first Femaile President.  She and her husband Dr Jon Bjarni Thornsteinsson were in Australia attending the 7th Lions International ANZI Pacific Forum in Ballarat 1st-3rd September, 2017 as well as spending time visiting several clubs to hear about projects.

As Geelong Stroke Association of Victoria is one of our clubs projects, Ms Yngvadottir was invited to attend and meet staff and guests (Gail & Stephanie from Geelong Community Foundation) Zone 4 Chairman (Les Cropley) and other Lions Members (Pete, Pearl & Geoff, Cheryl & Howard and Charlie).. 

First Vice President Gudrun is a member of the Gardabaejar Lions Club in Iceland (since 1992) and she is the Vice Director of the Institute of Continuing Education at the University of Iceland.

DISTRICT GOVENOR'S VISIT

District Govenor Trevor Hirth and Lions Lady Jan had an early start to the day on Tuesday 12th September and attended a 7.00am meeting at our club.

Trevor spoke on his chosen theme - COMPASSION, COMMITTMENT and COMPANIONSHIP and congratulated all members on our projects and wished us all well.

 

CENTENARY OF LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL

Lions Breakfast Club Members Cheryl & Howard attended a reception at Government House on Thursday 21st September, 2017 to mark the Centenary of the establishment of Lions Clubs International..

Hon. Linda Dessau AC Governor of Victoria gave an address on the formation of Lions in Victoria to a large gathring of Lions Members in the Grand Ballroom.

Morning tea followed with several rooms opened to the public.

 

FORD VOLUNTEER TEAM DAY OUT

Co-ordinator of the event, Stephanie Gould-Hardwick, commented aftrwards "I'd just like to thank you for assisting in setting this up, the rest of the Ford team had a wonderful and rewarding day playing around with hammers, climbing cliffs and digging holes"

The day went extremely well, with a little help from the weather, but also a lot of help from Pete Johnston (Lions Breakfast Club). Pete was exceptional in co-ordinating a lost group of engineers on different tasks that were outside our day to day life. Instructions were clear and it showed how important work like this is to the community.

 

HAMLYN HEIGHTS 40TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER

attended this event at Belmont RSL on 10th October, 2017

Other clubs represented were Leopold, Wycheproof, Lara and Grovedale.

This enjoyable evening was attended by 24 people and during the night several awards were presented.

Guest Speaker was the Co-Ordinator of Christ Church Community Meals Program.

Lions Breakfast Club Bannerette was presented by Alan to the President of Hamlyn Heights, Frank O'Neil.
